The game was created by none other than Rayman and Beyond Good and Evil famed French game designer Michel Ancell. The player assumes the role of Jack (played by Adrien Brody in the film) and must survive the mysterious island while fending off variously sized hungry dinosaurs.
The player takes on the role of Kong, the enormous ape, in the game's second half and battles the island's T-Rex inhabitants. Despite having excellent production standards and engaging gameplay, the game wasn't a major commercial success.

Even though there was an unsuccessful attempt to revive the game series in 2008 that received negative reviews on both a critical and commercial level, Turok is one of these strange phenomena that eventually died out in the early 2000s. Actually, the first game created by a third party for the N64 in 1997 was the original Turok. In general, the game series is based on an Indian dinosaur fighter from a comic book of the same name from the 1950s.
The Turok games are first-person shooters in which the player battles a wide variety of dinosaurs, aliens, mutants from other dimensions, and other animals. The series subsequently fell into obscurity and was unable to compete commercially with the Halo generation of shooters in the early 2000s, despite the initial games' widespread acclaim.
