Code breakers.
One of the few new features in The Last of Us Part 1 that wasn't in the first game is locked safes. Safes made their debut in The Last of Us Part 2 and have since been added to the original game's remake. Their workings are straightforward; to unlock them, you must locate a code somewhere in the level. While the majority of safe codes are quite obvious to the player in the immediate vicinity, others need some thought and research.
The safes are optional, so if you're just attempting to finish the game's story, you don't need to worry about unlocking them all. Nevertheless, they contain important things that can make the survival aspects of the game much simpler. Additionally, in order to obtain the "Sticky Fingers" award for The Last of Us Part 1's platinum trophy, you must open every safe.
Safe #1 – The Outskirts: Downtown
It takes the game several hours until the first safe appears. You will be in a stealth area in the "Downtown" region of the Outskirts where you must stay away from full-fledged clickers. Head into a tiny convenience shop on the area's left after starting the section. Step around the counter to the cash register's back drawer and open it. You'll discover a note with the safe's combination written on it inside: 03-43-78.
With the combination in your possession, exit the building and enter the bookstore by walking straight across the space. A sizable safe may be found inside if you go behind the counter. Enter the code to receive a reward in the form of an item.
Safe #2 – Bill’s Town: The Woods
The first act of Bill's Town contains the location of the second safe. Ellie will help you climb over a chain-link fence and enter a door after which you'll be on a broad street area with many of buildings to explore. As soon as you enter the area, turn right along the street. A sizable safe and a pickup truck may be found in the street to your right about halfway down.
The combination to the safe is 05-17-21, and it may be discovered on a handwritten note that is taped to some barbed wire at the extreme end of the street.
Safe #3 – Pittsburgh: Hotel Lobby
You'll need to set up the ladder in the left corner of the room on the wall that is parallel to it because the central staircase is broken and makes it otherwise impossible to access the posh hotel lobby in Pittsburgh. You can reach an open bag with a note inside by climbing the ladder and moving to the right, where you'll shimmy across the path. The safe's combination is written on the note as 22-10-56.
You can enter a backroom by circling the check-in desks on the right side of the room if you descend back to the first floor. Enter the combination above to access the safe inside the room and retrieve its contents.
